Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a 331 km² ancient montane rainforest in south-western Uganda, home to an estimated 460 mountain gorillas — almost half of all that remain on Earth. Nineteen habituated gorilla families can be visited from the trailheads of Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo.
Beyond gorillas, Bwindi hosts over 350 bird species (including 23 Albertine Rift endemics), chimpanzees, forest elephants and more than 200 butterfly species. Community walks with the Batwa people add a moving cultural dimension to any visit.
